The Republican National Committee today finally pulled the plug on the offensive “race-baiting”¬†ad on Harold Ford, Jr., which features¬†a white woman asserting that she had met the Senatorial candidate at a Playboy party, followed by her invitation to Harold to “call me.”
RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman apologized for the ad, stating that it was all a big mistake, since it had originally been intended for Illinois Senator Barack Obama.¬†¬†As Mehlman explained, “to us lily-white Republicans, all light-skinned black guys look alike.”
Mehlman further explained that although Obama is not running for re-election this year, “it was important to start smearing him as soon as possible,¬†since he has¬†emerged as a¬†heavyweight in the field of potential Democratic Presidential candidates.”
Indeed, Mehlman let slip the centerpiece of the planned anti-Obama campaign, devised by Karl Rove: that Obama has fathered black children.
However, Obama,¬†a married man, denies that he ever attended the Super Bowl party at the Playboy Mansion, claiming that the RNC is mixing him up with baseball star and well-known ladies’¬†man Derek Jeter.
Upon hearing this, Yankees’ owner George Steinbrenner issued a press release, claiming that perhaps Jeter could have hit .400, instead of only .340, and won the Bronx Bombers a few more championships, if he had kept his mind on baseball.
However, Jeter issued his own press release, similarly denying that he was at that particular affair.¬†Jeter explained that this was also a case of mistaken identity,¬†since the baseball player who did attend was Tigers’ pitcher Kenny Rogers, with just too much pine tar on his face.¬†¬†¬†
