Who says the Republican party doesn’t believe in evolution?¬† Just look at how far they’ve evolved since 1988, from Bush pere, to Bush rear.
Ya’ see, even the know-nothings know enough to avoid resurrecting the specter of¬†Willie Horton, the dark-skinned black rapist who was a major part of the senior Bush’s Lee Atwater-inspired scare campaign against Dukakis.¬†
Now, the Republican National Committee has endorsed¬†ads in the Tennessee Senate race suggesting that a light-skinned black man — Democrat Harold Ford, Jr. –¬†is merely dating white women.¬†In the offending¬†ad, an actress says she met¬†Ford¬†at a “Playboy party” and later winks and says, “Harold, call me.”
So I guess the dream of the Rev. Martin Luther king, Jr. has finally been realized.
RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, reached at his weekend¬†log cabin retreat,¬†defended this ad against racist charges: “there was no intent¬†to anger white voters, just¬†to piss off black women at one of their men dating a white woman.”
But now, the GOP candidate, Bob Corker, wants the ad pulled, not because it’s offensive, but because it’s backfiring.¬†Corker’s internal polling shows that in a culture where white suburban teenagers idolize rapper 50 Cent, Ford has gained ground because of his reputation as a stud, in contrast to Corker’s persona as a dud.
Consequently, Corker is trying to close the “pimp gap” by appearing in music videos with a stable of black “hos.”¬†¬†Using¬†the name “50 Million Dollars,” Corker has cut a new single, entitled “It’s Hard Out Here For¬†a Wimp.”¬†
