After sucking up¬†to the Bush Administration in two previous books,¬†Bob Woodward has finally come out with his “Dog Bites Man” story: that this Administration is a gang of¬†dysfunctional liars.

In sharp contrast to his salad¬†days of Watergate and “Deep Throat,” the latest Woodward tome¬†required¬†no¬†secret meetings with anonymous sources in underground garages.¬†¬†Instead, Woodward relied primarily¬†on¬†sources that can be characterized as “shallow throats” — thousands of Goverment employees openly standing on their desks,¬†engaged in primal screams.

Woodward also borrowed heavily from the reporting in the most comprehensive book to date on Administration¬†policy in Iraq, entitled Tobasco — a rough composite of “Total Debacle Fiasco.”

Commenting on Woodward’s¬†allegations that the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld cabal cavalierly ignored both reality and sound judgment, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow called such charges “cotton candy,” meaning that¬†they melt away as fast as imaginary weapons of mass destruction.

But that’s not to say that Mr. Washington Insider did not come up with some interesting anecdotes, which¬†confirm¬†the Macchiavellian machinations¬†of Administration officials. ¬†

For example, Woodward relates the story of how Cheney was so desperate to “find” chemical stockpiles in Iraq,¬†he called weapons inspector David Kay in the middle of the night,¬†directing him to a Baghdad Duane Reade to pick up some amoxicillin.

Woodward also reveals that there was a groundswell of sentiment within the Administration to dump Rumsfeld. However,¬†Bush refused to pull the trigger after fielding a¬†call from the SECDEF’s wife, who said she couldn’t deal with Donald hanging around the house, where “shit always seems to happen.”

In an unrelated story, GOP Congressman Mark Foley was forced to resign after he was discovered to have sent an obscene email to a House page, which urged the young man to join the National Guard.
