As highlighted by today’s New York Times Magazine cover story, the “Right to Life” movement has metastasized into a “Right to Control Your Life” crusade, as Christian fundamentalists have now essentially embraced the Vatican position against all contraception. At the forefront of this battle is the emergency contraception or “morning-after pill”:
Some pharmacists
Are now refusing to fill
Morning-After prescriptions
And other birth-control pills
So when the Rx symbol gives way to a Cross
The pharmacist is — an Evangelical Underboss
Now where will this path of righteousness lead?
Denying painkillers to Rush and Minelli?
And sweeping the shelves completely clear
Of condoms and KY Jelly?
But since these Drugstore “Godians” are full of shit
And bloated with their own holy status
Perhaps the only way
To cure them for good
Is with the Dreaded Apparatus
But even if they win this war
These Christians won’t sleeping dogs lie
They want the “Beginning of Life” defined
As the gleam in a horny guy’s eye
[reprinted from One State Two State Red State Blue State]
And between the official Vatican position on condoms, and the campaign to ban sex toys, it’s only a matter of time before the only individuals having sex will be …
I know a young man
Who went to a hooker
But not to get “released”
But to CONFESS to the girl
That he lost his virginity
To his local parish priest
